David Olney has lectured in the Discipline of Politics and Faculty of Arts at The University of Adelaide since 2002 (at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels). His areas of expertise and interest include Complex Problem Solving, Operations Research, Functional Neurology, Civil-Military Relations, Counter Terrorism, Philosophies of Violence, Stoicism, and Existential philosophy. He has convened courses ranging from Applied Thinking and Complex Problem Solving, to Strategic Culture and International Security.
In 2018 David won a Student-Led Teaching Award at The University of Adelaide. He has supervised theses on Counter Insurgency, Counter Terrorism, ASIO, Drone Warfare, Joint Special Operations Command, Intervention in Failed States, and European Integration. David has provided Complex Problem Solving training to the Public Sector, Defence, and Corporate Sector since 2014.
He is a regular commentator on Australian National Security, Regional Security, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Since 2014 David has been the co-host of the Strategikon podcast for SAGE International Australia, and has co-hosted his own podcast, Blind Insights, with Tim Whiffen since December 2018. Since July 2019 David has been senior Analyst at SAGE International Australia. In 2021 David commenced a Master of Media in Strategic Communication.
